SDCC 2010 the Aftermath…

Posted in Website Update on July 28th, 2010 by Joe

Con came and went and it was a blur.  It was hard, long and tiring but we made it through.  I really want to thank Randy for helping me out so much, I don’ t think I could have made it without him.  I also want to thank Kevin for helping out in the booth and making it easy for me to take a break.  I met a lot of new people and hopefully made some new friends and saw a lot of old friends.  I was a pretty darn good time. I heard from a lot of customers and fans about Greg Tocchini’s latest work “Last Days of American Crime“, the response was fantastic.  Everyone loves it.

Guess it’s time to start planning for next year!

Thanks

Cheers!

We invite you all to come by and see us at the Con, we will be located in BOOTH #4405 in the Illustrators Area.  You just might run into a couple of the artists, Rafael ALBUQUERQUE (American Vampire, Superman/Batman & the Blue Beetle) or you may run into Ryan BENJAMIN (Batman Beyond, Batman & the Outsiders, Grifter/Midnighter & Pancratia).  We will have original art, art prints, sketchbooks and more from many of today’s top comic artists like Renato GUEDES (Wolverine, Superman & Action Comics), Eddy BARROWS (Superman, Blackest Night & Teen Titans), Paulo SIQUEIRA (Amazing Spider-Man & Anti-Venom), Adriana MELO (Birds of Prey, Ms. Marvel & Witchblade), Greg TOCCHINI (Last Days of American Crime) and many more!  So come by and say “hi”.  We look forward to seeing many of our old friends and meeting new ones.

Superman/Batman Annual #4 and Batman Beyond #1 – into Second Printing

Posted in Website Update on July 3rd, 2010 by Joe

I have to say I’m ecstatic and very happy for two of our artists, Renato GUEDES (Superman/Batman Annual #4) and Ryan BENJAMIN (Batman Beyond Vol. 3 #1)!  Both of their respective works were so very well received that they sold out and are now in second printings.  Although this might be considered Renato’s swan song at DC, nonetheless he definitely hit a home run with his last at bat.  Pun most definitely intended.

And as for Ryan, he was actually very excited when he was given the chance to draw Batman Beyond, he just wasn’t sure how the DC editors wanted him to tackle the characters since the characters have become very distinctly know for being drawn in the Bruce Timm style.  Ryan is enjoying drawing the characters and the story keeps him engaged as well, therefore you can see it in the fine art work.

I hope to have the pages from both of these great stories very soon.  I will keep everyone in the loop here on via email updates.

Thanks for stopping by.

Cheers!

Art Update

Posted in New Art on June 12th, 2010 by Joe

Hey!  I wanted to let you all know that I finally finished scanning and pricing a batch of new art.  Now up from Eddy BARROWS, pages from War of the Supermen including all four covers as well as pages from Blackest Night JSA.  War of the Supermen gives you a great jumping point as Eddy begins as the regular artist on Superman beginning with issue #701!  From Adriana MELO pages from Amazing Spider-Man Presents: Jackpot and a very nice assortment of covers (Escape from Wonderland, Grimm Fairy Tales & JLA #42).  Last but not least Paulo SIQUEIRA! Paulo really shines with his work on Amazing Spider-Man Annual #37, these pages are fantastic and details the first meeting between Captain America and our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.  Stop by and check ‘em all out!  You will not be disappointed.

SDCC Update

Posted in Shows & Conventions on June 6th, 2010 by Joe

Wow!  I can’t believe it’s already June, where has the time gone?  I have been prepping and planning for the San Diego Comic-Con since the end of last years show.  We’ll I think I’ve got everything together except the line up.  As I’m sure you can guess trying to get artists here all the way from Brazil can be very difficult.  None of the artist get “comped” to come to Con, which means they have to pay their own way, pay for accommodations and all the other expenses that come along with coming to San Diego.  The artists also have to make sure they have time in their schedule which will allow for a one to two week break.  So as soon as I have information about who will be attending I will be sure to note it here.  So far confirmed to attend are Rafael ALBUQUERQUE (American Vampire, Superman/Batman & The Blue Beetle)and Ryan BENJAMIN (Batman Beyond, Dead Romeo and Pancratia). We will have a schedule for signings at the show.

You can find us on the Con floor located in the “Illustrators Area” in BOOTH #4405

This year we will be sharing space with Randy MARTIN (Mighty Nib) and some of the artists he represents like Mark BROOKS (Amazing Fantasy, Amazing Spider-Man, the Avengers) and others.

We are really looking forward to this years show, especially seeing all of our friends and meeting new ones!

I will continue to have more updates as the show draws nearer.  I will also be listing some new art from Adriana MELO, Eddy BARROWS and Paulo SIQUEIRA in the next day or two so check back soon.

Talk to you soon.

Cheers!

Thank you!

Posted in Shows & Conventions on May 25th, 2010 by Joe

I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who joined us for a moving and extremely enjoyable time at Rod’s fantastic charity event.  Awareness was raised, money was donated and even a couple of wonderful people decided to make the “gift of life” and become organ donors!  A great time was had by all, fantastic art was on view, the music was lively and energetic, drinks flowed and many smiles were seen on the guests.

We are already thinking about next year’s event, so keep a spot open for Rod’s 3rd annual “Art For Life” benefit.

Gracias, Mahalo, Salamat and Obrigado!

Cheers!

“Art for Life” – Charity Art Show

Posted in Shows & Conventions on May 4th, 2010 by Joe

This is being posted on behalf of my good friend Rod Mojica about a very worthy cause.  Please take a moment.

Hello,

My name is Rod Mojica. I’d like to invite you to an opportunity to promote yourselves as an artist and to benefit a great cause for my 2nd annual “Art for Life” charity event benefiting Lifesharing. Lifesharing is a national non-profit organization that brings awareness for organ donations. I myself am a dual transplant recipient and this is my way of giving back to what was given to me by bringing talented people together and sharing your gifts for a greater cause. I would not be here today if organizations like Lifesharing did not exist. Please view this link to view my last fundraiser:

http://lifesharing.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=408:artshow&catid=14:newsarticles&Itemid=25

The date of the event is May 15, 2010 from 7:00pm to 11:00pm and the event will be held at this location:

Sushi on a Roll
1620 National Ave
San Diego, CA 92113

http://sushionarollsd.com/

Please respond by this Friday, April 16, 2010 if you’d like to participate and if you can also please forward this information to any other creative contacts who you know that may be interested as well. I will not be able to take any talent after April 16th, please let me know by then.

Details regarding set-up, how many art pieces, and other information will be sent out after I have a confirmed list of participants. I will be asking each participant to donate some of your work in which 100% of the proceeds will go to Lifesharing. Sponsored contributors include: My cousin DJ Glenn Redd, providing the music, Brazillian/Bosa Nova singer Nadja will be singing live, Comic-Con International donating two passes for Comic-Con 2010 to be auctioned off, and Jeff Roberto, owner of Sushi on a Roll will donate $1.00 for every sushi roll sold during the event. Other sponsors, contributors, and volunteers will be added shortly.

Please join me in helping others receive the gift of life. I can’t express how important it is to bring more awareness for organ donations. I know there are other ailments that you and I support like Breast Cancer, AIDS, etc. We can conquer all of these ailments one at a time. But I’m reaching out to all of you for this one in particular because some of you know me and you know what I’ve gone through and what I’m still going through. Help me give someone what was given to me.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for your time.

Respectfully,

Rod Mojica

Give until it hurts and see how you will be blessed.
